They can be kept in a small area for an extended period by working them slowly with small sharp rod movements as well as adjusting the cadence based on water clarity: faster in clearer water and slower as visibility decreases

This works really well at mimicking an injured or feeding bluegill, but its a slow process when wanting to cover lots of water

When the fish are finicky, I use a spinning reel to tickle a tiny jig

This is then wound onto the reel at the tackle shop (recommended for beginners), or at home if you know how to spool a reel correctly, to form the main line of your setup
